The Defenders

There will be many preadators in the world of Dinosauria, but not all are defensless there are a few herbivores in the game that have protective strategies, and here they are.

Stegosaurus-defenses-tail spikes,plates(for warning to attackers)
Parasauralophus-defenses-crest(for warning heard)
Ankylosaurus-defenses-tail club,body armor
Triceratops-defenses-frill ,horns

Even the greatest predators would think twice before attaking these tough vegatarians.

actually the plates on stegosaurus were useless for defense. it would actually be a tasty snack for any predator that bites it since it is believed to have been used to pump blood vessels there for display.

I think the plates were categorized for "warning".

Sory, but since i watched 'Dinosaurs Decoded" i have to change my opinion for Triceratops. They said it's horns and frill were used for struting defense, so Mr. TRIKE is off the Defenders list.

Well, nobody will ever know what the horns were used for, since all we have are the fossil records. Remember, when dinosaurs were first discovered, people thought that they were all cold blooded. Now, it's widely believed that dinosaurs were warm-blooded. Once there was a time when all dinosaurs were supposedly dumb and scaly. Now it's believed that some dinosaurs were very intelligent and we know that a few, such as the raptors, had feathers. Paleontology will continually evolve and, as we understand more about the dinosaurs, will come up with new and improved explanations on how they behaved.

i disagree. they have found t-rexes with gores and holes in there bone that was caused by a triceratops so i think it may have part o f the time been a defensive animal. besides, if it wasn't, then why are there no hole in it's skull.

I think the crest was definetly for display purposes, but I think having horns for only display would be a bit of a waste of time, so they must have had some other purpose, probably for defending themselves.
I couldn't think of anything good to put in my signature. Any suggestions?

Your right KoiBoi, every theory that Horner came up with (exept for the Pachycephelosaurus=Stigymolich=Dracorex theory) is a pile of elephant excreat.

Scrapes and gouges left on the frills of Triceratops and many other ceratopsians made by horns from other animals of the same species indicate that their primary purpose was for dueling with eachother, was has been long speculated. Not to mention that in most cases the frill of ceratopsians was fairly fragile, what with being very thin and with those big holes in them and such. Not very good for combat, but perfect for display. Triceratops was actually one of the few ceratopsians that had a solid frill.
Needless to say, though, even if defense wasn't the primary purpose of the horns of ceratopsians, they still would have made quite deadly weapons, and it would have been fairly capable of defending itself if it had to.

For the steggasourus thing the spikes on its back if a rapter tried to jump on the stegasouroues back it would jump on hard plates

think of those plates as a giant bloody cookie. a raptor could easily tear into the skin causing it to bleed and basically providing no defense.

Incorrect, the plates are SOLID BONE, someone learn something about dinosaurs around here, the only blood a raptor would taste is it's own.
